G.O.L.D. premiered in 2022 as part of the Festival La Bâtie, then toured the Valais (Le Spot in Sion) and the canton of Vaud (L'Oriental in Vevey). ‘is a large-scale project (9 people on stage), we decided to design a ‘light’ version of the show in order to widen the network of potential venues. This version has 3 people on stage.
How to free oneself from the tyranny of success? The multidisciplinary performance G.O.L.D. invites us to rid ourselves of the burden of performance, victory, and success. G.O.L.D. is presented in a more compact version featuring Anna Lemonaki, musician Nikos Tsolis, and Severin Domela on stage. Inspired by award ceremonies, G.O.L.D. is a satire in which the credit given to glory and success is replaced by failure, small flaws, and major setbacks—those feelings that society seeks to erase at all costs. The performance questions the concepts of glory and defeat, heroes and anti-heroes in an era when the ceremonies themselves are, for the first time, being massively questioned. This questioning extends to a system of growth, power, competition, and patriarchal values, which swell on the red carpets and far beyond. On stage, Anna Lemonaki, Nikos Tsolis, and Severin Domela make the performance truly shine through music, beauty, and a tone that is serious yet free. To rise is always to risk falling, and to fail is to accept our fragility and open the door to a possible rebirth. |
